What the Seattle Summer Festival represents is a new way of thinking about community.
It is a re-writing of the social contract between those with power and those without, it is about the emphasis of developing our community virtues as well as personal ones, first and foremost, not the development of toys and trinckets which we will tire of soon thereafter.
The notions of social capitalism, immaterialism, the virtuous path, the shared-profit and eupraxopy, all these are an expression of sentiments most people have had in their lives, about what would be possible if the riches of our world were'nt focused on the making of needless things but instead on the development of people and civil society, on our basic humanity...what could we do if our energy where focused on bettering ourselves and not the things we use...
The success of this festival first and foremost, is with the broad acceptance of these ideas and the models which encompass them....mainly in the creation of our local and global commonwealths.
The Seattle Commonwealth, will fund and develop civic and not-for-profit works, that primarily serve the greater Seattle Metropolitan Area, currently at around 3.5 million people.
Likewise, but on a much grander scale The Commonwealth for Human Ideals, CHI for short-hand....advances projects that will span the whole of the planet, serving the nearly 7 Billion human beings here already, and that will include the creation of local commonwealths around the world, each to serve their own community.
The shared-profit companies which this festival will host and develop will be funding CHI project for over 30 years to come, so though most of the immediate gains go toward the Seattle area, both in material and immaterial terms, the benefits to the rest of the world are quite fantastic...as our ideals become ideals of people everywhere.
